I spent 2 hours cutting out material. I cut the 9 patches in half one direction, then had to cut them in half the other direction. After they were cut we pinned them into the 9 larger blocks, they are now ready to be sewn together.

On February 5th, I worked for 5 hours on making my quilt. In that time I pinned and sewed the 9 patches to make one of the final squares, I had previously already had 2 of these done, so today I made 7 more.
I met with Mary Jo on January 15th. We did a lot more cutting of the material for my quilt. The colors I have chosen are pink, white, grey chevron, black, and then the mini squares will be white. I have been learning how when you are sewing seams, you need to press them so the back seam goes one way and the top seam goes a different way. I have the second large square of my quilt completed. We will have 9 squares when we are finished.
On January 8th I met with my mentor and we made our first steps at the quilting process. I cut out 9 different pieces of block material to be used to make our first square on the quilt. We also finished a full square so we have a rough pattern of what we are going to be completing with our final larger quilt.
I met with my mentor on December 11th. We made pattern blocks out of construction paper. After we made the blocks we taped them together, and moved them around to represent how the quilting blocks will be placed. We signed the needed paper work for class. We also figured out how much of the material I am going to need to purchase. I will need about 3 yards of each material for the top of the quilt, and for the back roughly 7 yards. We are planning to wait until after Christmas to meet again.
I looked at different designs of material for my quilt. There are so many different ones I can choose from. The ones I am thinking about using, but not for sure yet, are chevron designs with different colors. My base color will be black and white, then different colors to follow.
I also contacted my mentor by phone and we planned a day that we are going to meet to discuss the final product and to get papers signed. We are both going to learn from each other as we both have different pieces of knowledge on different branches of the quilting process. I contacted my mentor last night. We worked out a plan of how we are going to be making my quilt. We decided I am going to make the block piece quilt with matching blocks. We are going to have my aunt Gale Mohnen help us with the piecing together of the blocks. We will be meeting on Wednesdays and Sundays.
In my research paper I am talking about many different things relating to quilting. The first thing I am talking about is the history of quilting. Things included in the history of quilting are how things were first brought about to make a quilt, such as the different ways they quilted by hand. Also the way that they invented new ideas, they used what was going on around the communities to come up with designs.
The next thing I am talking about is the care of quilting. Big things to know about caring for a quilt are how to store it and how to wash it. You don't want to spend time on something and then ruin it. Finally, I am talking about major steps of how to quilt. The beginning and ending steps will be some of the main points I am going to inform about. I have decided to do my senior project on quilting. I will be making a quilt for my final product. I have estimated my cost to be around $75-100, with the cost of the materials and the cost of gas to travel to and from my mentor's house. My quilt will be fairly big.
In English class we have been finishing up our papers. I am still going through my paper and making corrections. It has been hard coming up with at least 8 pages of information on the topic of quilting. I am making corrections now and will be turning it in soon.
